Wachau

The Wachau is an Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of  Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk & Krems that also attracts many people for its high-quality wines.

Wachau is loved by the Austrians because of the beautiful landscape, hills and vineyards, the remarkable ruins and castles and the Danube that meanders through the region with so much tranquility and elegance.

If you would like to stay 1-2 days longer in the region, you will find tips from the "locals" here and a link with more information below:

  • Visit Dürnstein Monastery
  • Weißenkirchen go up to the church and look down
  • Stift Göttweig
  • Tips for eating & drinking: Weingut Hirtzberger, Nigl, Weinbeisserei, if you like it a little fancier: Hofmeisterei

Krems

Our wedding location Sepp Moser is right near Krems (5km). We visited Krems again 2 weeks ago for a stroll.
We recommend to go there for lunch and a walk around the city.

The old town of Krems is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau Cultural Landscape: with picturesque alleys, a cobbled pedestrian zone and architectural witnesses of the time such as the Steiner Tor - the only city gate that has been preserved and at the same time a landmark of Krems.
